French shipping line CMA CGM is in talks to buy at least three 20,000 teu container ships at a total cost of around $420m.
Deliveries will start in 2017 according to Wall Street Journal sources, with the vessels set to be utilised between Asia and Europe on the world’s busiest ocean trade route.
South Korea-based Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction looks favourite to be the manufacturer after offering CMA CGM a 5% discount compared to other South Korean container yards.
