The chairman of the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) has claimed the US has “a lot of work to do” to prevent port congestion becoming an ongoing issue for years.
At the 2015 Legal Ports Conference in Long Beach, Mario Cordero, chairman of the US’s independent federal regulator, said that the changing dynamics of the industry were a deeper cause of port congestion than the recent West Coast labour dispute.
“Congestion has been a problem long before labour negotiations and will continue to be a challenge,” he stated.
