Maersk Line is expected to order up to eleven new 20,000 teu vessels, marking an investment worth more than US$1bn.
The fleet of ships are expected to be built in Korea and under a Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) contract.
It is speculated that the order is for seven 20,000 teu ships with the option for a further four. Sources of The Wall Street Journal however, said that the number was six and four.
