The Infrastructure Committee of the Assembly of Deputies (CADE) – (Panamanian Senate) has rejected the draft law ensuring that the concessionaire of the future port of Corozal would enjoy the same conditions and benefits such as tax exemptions, enjoyed by the other port operators established in Panama.
Accordingly the Minister of the Presidency, Alvaro Alemán, said the port of Corozal project will be re-tendered by the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) following some approved amendments and this time, “We will have to approve it in cabinet before presenting it again to the Panamanian Senate during July,” he said.
Alemán was confident Senators will approve the bill this time but that the project should not be submitted for approval at the moment as the executive “had other priorities.”
