A new container freight train service began its first journey from Krishnapatnam Port to the Whitefield Depot (WFD) ICD in Bangalore on 19 June, marking what the port calls “a new milestone in its service offerings. The trainload comprised a full load of import laden containers destine for a number of companies in and around Bengaluru city.
A Krishnapatnam port spokesman said that the weekly rail service in association with CONCOR provides the fastest transit to/from the WFD ICD, “giving an impetus to importers and exporters around Bengaluru, Hosur and Chittoor among others.”
Comprising a a maximum carrying capacity of 90 teu each way, the train service reduces transportation times from 24-36 hours by road to just 18 hours in addition to saving customers up to US$150 on each container.
