The governments of Japan, Myanmar and Thailand have signed an agreement to jointly develop the Dawei Special Economic Zone and port in Myanmar.
The project envisions a deep-sea port including a container terminal, a 200 sq. km economic zone, factories, a coal mine and a power plant at Dawei, in southern Myanmar.
The Prime Minister of Thailand Prayut Chan-o-cha said at the Mekong-Japan summit, where the deal was signed, that the zone “will become a new distribution centre for the world.
