Unidentified shipping lines will be subject to an investigation by Russian and Chinese authorities into whether they have fixed prices on the trade lane between the two countries.
Alexander Kinyov, deputy head of the Russian Federal Anti-monopoly Service (FAS), said that the results of the investigation will be released midway through August.
“This is a global market”, he said, “and the main route of the container cargo traffic from Southeast Asia and China to Europe passes through the port of St. Petersburg. We suspect several transport companies of coordinating freight rate increases for container cargo transport on this route.”
