Kalmar has been awarded a major port equipment order of more than €25m (US$25m) from Sociedad Portuaria Regional de Buenaventura S.A. (SPRBun) as the operator gears up for growth at its operations in Terminal Especializado de Contenedores de Buenaventura S.A. (TECSA) in Buenaventura, Colombia.
The delivery, which includes 14 E-One2 rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTGs) and six forklift trucks, is scheduled to be completed by April 2016. A long-standing customer of the equipment manufacturer, the new equipment will complement the operator’s existing fleet of 26 Kalmar Ottawa terminal tractors.
SPRBun has hinted at the possibility of adding Kalmar process automation in the future to help maximise productivity.
Sociedad Portuaria Regional de Buenaventura S.A is the oldest port in Colombia and the main port on the Pacific Ocean. Current annual container volumes are 380,000 teu, with throughput expected to increase to 850,000 teu by 2020 as it develops domestic operations and enters the transhipment market.
