Quay crane and rubber-tyred gantry crane operators have gone on strike at PSA-operated Chennai International Terminal.
As of September 23, productivity was around 15 to 20 moves per hour, according to a customer advisory from NYK Line.
The strike was called because the terminal operator is training management staff to operate the cranes. Negotiations are ongoing between the two sides.
Management staff and other PSA employees are being used to operate the cranes.
India’s major government-owned ports, including Chennai, were hit by a nationwide one-day strike on September 2, 2015.
In early August, Gateway Terminals India in Mumbai experienced an RTG-operator’s strike which lasted from August 4, 2015 to August 12, 2015.
