Neptune Orient Lines (NOL) has confirmed that it is holding separate talks with both Maersk and CMA CGM over the sale of the company.
NOL is the owner of American President Line (APL), which is the 13th biggest container shipping line in the world with a fleet of 0.54m teu, according to Alphaliner. Maersk Line has the world’s biggest container fleet, with nearly 3m teu, and CMA CGM is third, with 1.8m teu.
In a filing to the Singapore Stock Exchange, the company said that the talks were “preliminary” and The Wall Street Journal quoted someone apparently familiar with the talks, who said that there have not been any specific bids discussed.
