The movement of containers in and out of India’s Port of Chennai was stopped until further notice due to flooding caused by the heavy rainfall which affected the city in the past two weeks and caused the death of at least 270 people.
The Hong Kong-based container shipping and logistics company Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) told its customers in an advisory that, as of December 4, the movement of containers in and out of the port was stopped by the port and police authorities until further notice.
OOCL added all the port’s terminals were functioning normally as far as vessel berthing and sailing were concerned.
