Power and automation technology group ABB has announced that it will deliver automation and remote control solutions to port operator DP World’s US$1.6bn terminal 4 currently underway at Jebel Ali port in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The group will provide automation and remote control solutions to the new terminal’s 13 ship-to-shore (STS) cranes and 35 automatic stacking cranes (ASC), which are expected to help the terminal achieve a capacity of 3.1m teu by 2018 during the first phase of its construction.
According to ABB, despite the operation concept of Terminal 4 will be similar to that in DP World’s Terminal 3, the new terminal represents a step forward in terms of remote operation since all the STSs and ASCs of the facilities will be operated from a control room located away from the quay.
