French shipping line CMA CGM has reportedly signed a preliminary agreement with Iranian carrier Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) following the recent lifting of broad economic sanctions against the country.
According to a statement by the French government, the agreement, which was signed during the official visit to France of Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani, includes joint operation of shipping routes, cooperation in the use of port terminals and vessel capacity sharing, news agency Reuters reported.
The countries’ partnership, which is subject to the remaining international sanctions on Iran, represents the first agreement between an international shipping company and IRISL since the lifting of the sanctions in January 2016.
