Union workers at the Port of New York and New Jersey walked off the job for nine hours on Friday January 29, 2016.
The walkout by the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) began at 10am affecting all port terminals and was due to end at 7pm after emergency negotiations took place.
The ILA is reportedly disgruntled with the hiring rules of the Waterfront Commission of New York Harbour, which oversees port hiring, although sources of The New York Times suggested that the dispute was against a federal criminal investigation into the union’s leadership.
