The Panama Papers leaks have shed some light on the dealings behind a bid for the Walvis Bay port expansion project in Namibia, according to The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ).
A shell company linked to a bribery scandal in Brazil paid another, owned by a Trinidadian politician, as part of a bid to win the US$340m tender contract to expand Walvis Bay port.
The leaks reveal that Santa Tereza Services paid Pendrey Associates US$1m to determine the price of the Walvis Bay contract and produce a technical report, but Pendrey’s bank delayed the transaction until it was pressured to relent.
