The Port of Long Beach has announced that its container handling volumes dropped by 26% year-on-year in March 2016.
The port handled 464,855 teu in March this year, compared to 630,084 teu in the same period last year, when the port recorded a 32% increase in volumes due to the exceptional recovery from cargo backlogs following previous labour disputes.
According to the port, other factors contributing to the fall in container handling volumes included the Lunar New Year, when several factories in East Asia shut down for one to two weeks.
