With containerised sea transport growing by only 1% in the past fiscal year, weak prospects for further containerisation are fuelling Hamburg Süd’s pessimism for future growth.
A statement from the German carrier noted: “It can be assumed that the international division of labour is no longer rising and the containerisation of general cargo is largely complete.”
Due to global overcapacity, freight rates declined by roughly 16% for the shipping line in 2015.
