Ports of Auckland, New Zealand, has announced that it will start works to partially automate its container terminal.
The automation project, which is set to be completed by 2019, includes the use of automated straddle carriers to load and unload trucks and operate the container yard.
The plans, which are expected to increase the terminal capacity from around 900,000 teu to 1.6/1.7m teu per year, will result in a loss of around 50 stevedoring roles.
