The Nigerian government has launched an Harmonised Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and Port Service Support Portal (PSSP) at Apapa Port in an attempt to tackle corruption, local media reported.
The new initiative, which is aimed at increasing efficiency and curbing corruption across the country’s ports, is reportedly expected to facilitate the creation of a business-friendly port environment without “conflict of interest and corrupt practices”.
The SOP and PSSP’s development followed recommendations outlined in a Corruption Risk Assessment (CRA) report released in December 2013, with a Project Steering Committee, set up in 2014 and chaired by the then Federal Ministry of Transport, coordinating their implementation.
