Seaborne perishable reefer trade is expected to grow by an annual average of 2.5% until 2020 according to the latest report by shipping consultancy Drewry.
By 2020, seaborne reefer cargo will reach 120m tonnes, the research estimates, although growth will be lower than the 3.1% recorded during the last decade.
Drewry expects reefer utilisation to improve as a result of increased seaborne cargo volumes and a rising market share for the reefer container ship mode.
