A strike by large container carriers has resulted in congestion in Chittagong, the biggest port in Bangladesh.
A group of carriers went on indefinite strike on September 26 after the government launched a crackdown on overloaded vehicles on the road between Chittagong and Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka.
The carriers’ association accused government officials of harassing trailer drivers for fines in an attempt to raise revenue. It also said the cut-off weight of 33 tonnes was lower than in other countries.
