Australian agency rewarded for emission-monitoring system

The Australian Marine Environment Protection Association (AUSMEPA) has been selected as finalist for the 2016 Google Impact Challenge.

AUSMEPA’s inclusion is due to its port emissions portal, which uses satellite tracking and big data to monitor air quality and changing air patterns at a port.

AUSMEPA’s chairman Warwick Norman said: “Our clear mandate is to protect Australia’s maritime environment, and one of the biggest challenges we are facing is climate change. This is not just a local issue, however action has to start at a local level.”
