Maersk Line and the Oetker Group have agreed for the Danish carrier to acquire Hamburg Süd, subject to final agreement and regulatory approvals, which are expected by the end of 2017.
Hamburg Süd is the world’s seventh largest container shipping line, specialising in the North – South trades and operating 130 container vessels with a container capacity of 625,000 teu.
In 2015, the German carrier had a turnover of US$6.7bn of which US$6.3bn stems from its container line activities.
