Port operator PSA has signed an agreement with two automotive companies for the design, development and testbed of an autonomous truck platooning system in Singapore.
The trials, which will be conducted by the Ministry of Transport (MOT) and PSA in collaboration with Scania and Toyota Tsusho, will involve transport of containers between the port’s terminals.
The introduction of truck platooning, which includes a human-driven lead truck leading a convoy of driverless trucks, is expected to tackle shortage of manpower and permit the movement of more freight at night to reduce traffic congestion.
