CMA CGM prepares for global sulphur cap

The partnership will last three years

CMA CGM has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with oil and gas company Total to gear up for the stricter fuel regulations which will affect the global shipping industry from 2020.

The three-year MoU will involve combined efforts to develop solutions to make container vessels more-environmentally friendly in preparation for the global sulphur cap, which will require ships trading outside sulphur Emission Control Areas (ECAs) to use fuel with a sulphur content of 0.5% or lower.

In the designated Emission Control Areas (ECAs), the sulphur content limit has been 0.1% since 2015.
