Transhipment boosts Barcelona volumes

The Port of Barcelona handled 2.2m teu in the financial year of 2016, representing container volume growth of 14.5%, largely due to a significant rise in transhipment.

Transhipment increased by 47% to 431,750 teu, as the segment continued its trend of recovery since being severely affected during the financial crisis.

Export container numbers grew by 3.8% to 683,527 teu while import containers advanced at a rate of 8.7, totalling 518,480 teu.
