The government of Algeria has greenlighted the construction of a US$3.3bn new deep-water port at El Hamdania, local media reported.
The government’s approval followed the announcement in December that Algeria’s Laboratoire des Etudes Maritimes (LEM) drew up plans for the facility with South Korea’s Yooshin engineering corporation.
Plans for the port, which will be located 70 km west of Algiers, include building up to 23 berths for a total annual handling capacity of 6.3m teu upon its completion.
