Maersk Container Industry (MCI) has launched an extension of its controlled atmosphere (CA) system, aiming to control the ripening process of low-respiring perishables such as blueberries and lychees.
The Danish company hopes that the new system, named Star Cool CA+, will extend the market reach of high-value perishables so they can arrive at their destinations in optimal conditions without over-ripening or decaying during transit.
Søren Leth Johannsen, chief commercial officer of MCI, said: “Demand for a large variety of fruit and vegetables is increasing throughout the year.
