The overall number of full containers to be carried in East and Southern Africa by 2020 is anticipated to exceed 7m teu by 2020 according to Dynamar.
In its latest report, the consultant pointed out that although South Africa’s economy is struggling, for East Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands combined, the expected growth rate is nearly 10%.
Nevertheless, the region still lags behind West Africa, it stated, with an average vessel size of 2,900 teu compared to 5,300 teu.
