APM Terminals (APMT) Gothenburg axed 160 members of staff yesterday following diminished container volumes resulting from its long running-dispute with the Swedish Dockworker’s Union (SDU).
The port operator handed a notice of termination to the workers, who make up more than a third of the terminal’s workforce, following the dispute that has involved strikes, blockades and lock-outs.
The move came just a day before the next round of mediation talks between APMT and the SDU, which began today (June 21).
