Antwerp continues to grow

The Port of Antwerp continued to grow following a record year, as teu throughput rose by 1.9% to 5.14m teu in the first six months of 2017.

In terms of container cargo weight, volumes rose by 2.5% compared with the same period last year to 61,288,262 tonnes. Across all sectors the port handled 111,385,518 tonnes of freight, a 2.8% increase.

This growth follows Antwerp’s record-breaking 2016 in which container throughput rose above 10m teu for the first time in the port’s history.
