Logistics provider Kloosterboer has ordered a new mobile harbour crane and a new reachstacker from Liebherr Maritime Cranes.

The mobile harbour crane type is an LHM 550 model, providing a maximum lifting capacity of 144 tonnes and an outreach of up to 54 m.

The reachstacker is an LRS 545model, which Kloosterboer tested for two months before choosing to purchase it.

The Dutch company specialises in logistics services in Western Europe for temperature controlled food products.

Over the past two years, its branch in Vlissingen has become a key European hub for bananas after Chiquita decided to land their tropical fruits in the port of Zeeland.

Hundreds of thousands of boxes are unloaded through Kloosterboer weekly and afterwards distributed from Vlissingen into Europe.

CMA CGM made Kloosterboer Vlissingen its last regional port of call on the Benelux to West Africa (EURAF service), resulting in an increase in container moves.

Liebherr’s Advanced Container Control software tool, which is a part of the Liebherr Cycoptronic, has been installed together with the Soft Touch Down system.

Both software features are meant to support the crane driver while unloading container quickly as well as smoothly, to optimise the handling of sensitive cargo like bananas or other fruits.

Marc Rommers, manager for operations and technical department at Kloosterboer, said: “We now provide all what it take to efficiently unload store and distribute fruits and other temperature controlled cargo, conventional as well as containerised.”
