The Port of Halifax’s Halterm terminal will invest US$10m in 2018 on expanding the terminal’s capacity.
The terminal will install three Konecranes one-over-five rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTGs), allowing containers to be stacked five high.
These RTGs will be delivered in February and October 2018.
The terminal claims these improvements will increase yard capacity by 40%, or 160,000 teu.
Expansion is neccessary because the terminal’s throughput is growing fast, by 18% in the first three quarters of 2017.
Halterm is owned and operated by Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets.
