Maersk Container Industry (MCI) has appointed manufacturing company Joy Global China’s president as its new CEO.
Sean Fitzgerald, who has more than 20 years of experiences across management, manufacturing, product management and marketing, will leave his job at Joy Global China in January 2018 and join MCI.
Chairman of MCI’s advisory board, Soren Toft, said: “Having returned to profitability after some tough years, the company is facing a number of opportunities, but also many challenges in an industry more competitive than ever.
“Sean’s proven track record driving production intensive businesses to profitability and market leadership makes him the ideal leader to spearhead Maersk Container Industry towards further market expansion, technology development and efficient operations.”
Fitzgerald has been president at the Joy Global China, which is part of the Japanese manufacturing company Komatsu Mining Corp, since 2014.
He was also previously regional vice president, responsible for 13 plants across America.
Prior to that role he held various executive positions at General Electric over the course of almost 10 years.
Fitzgerald will take responsibility of MCI’s operations, its 5,000 employees and three container manufacturing plants in Chile and China, and its research and design centre in Denmark.
Fitzgerald holds an MBA from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University and is a Bachelor of Science graduate in civil engineering from the United States Military Academy.
