The Chinese state will be the biggest container terminal operator in the world by 2020, according to a new report.
The report, by law firm Ince & Co, predicts that the combined entity of COSCO and China Shipping will be the world’s biggest terminal operator because of One Belt One Road investment. Currently, they are fourth and eighth respectively.
According to Ton van den Bosch, head of Ince & Co’s global ports & maritime infrastructure practice, One Belt One Road has involved investment of around US$150bn a year in assets like roads, railways and pipelines. Similarly, US$20bn has been invested in ports and terminals alone in the last twelve months.
