The Portuguese port’s volumes rose by 19% in the year – the highest growth rate of any of the national ports in Portugal.
Lídia Sequeira, President of Port of Lisbon Authority, highlights that “these figures are very encouraging, specially because they show that the strategy adopted, with a focus on growth, supported on labour peace in the port, was the right one.”
Ports in Portugal have suffered from numerous strikes over the years, particularly in 2015 and 2016. However, their competitors in Spain have been hit by strikes in 2017, causing cargo to re-route through French and Portuguese ports like Lisbon.
