Cavotec powers Paraguayan cranes

Cavotec will provide the cable reel technology for two electric rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes that Konecranes is sending to a Paraguayan river port later this year.

The cranes will be fitted with Cavotec motorised power cable reels to ensure a constant connection to a 1 kV power supply.

The ‘Boxhunter’ cranes will be used at the Villeta container terminal at Terport, a private port which is situated on the Paraguay River 12 km south of the country’s capital, Asunción.

In ordering the cranes, Terport will become the first Paraguayan port to operate RTGs.

The fully-electric Boxhunters can stack one-over-five containers high and seven containers wide, and have a lifting capacity of 40.6 tonnes.
