A battery-powered truck is being trialled at the Port of Oakland to test the feasibility of zero-emission freight hauling.
GSC Logistics, a Californian truck operator, said the US$250,000 demonstration truck would be used to transfer containers between its depot and Oakland’s marine terminals during a three-year trial.
The 10-tonne semi-trailer vehicle began its trial earlier this month, making it the only electric truck at the port alongside more than 6,000 diesel-powered vehicles.
