The Port of Colombo in Sri Lanka recorded a 16.4% year-on-year increase in throughput in January 2018, with transhipment volumes acting as a key driver in the growth.
Total volumes at the facility hit 564, 155 teu, with transhipment trade rising by 20.4% to 436,303 teu.
The Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) controlled Jaya Container Terminal (JCT), one of three terminals at Colombo, recorded transhipment volumes of more than 164,252, a stark increase of 43.7%. Across the country, SLPA volumes rose by 24.8% to 194,688 teu.
