The Marshall Islands (RMI) has submitted a paper to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), aiming to solve the shipping industry’s concerns on the implementation of a sulphur cap in 2020.
The submission, which was co-sponsored by Liberia, the Baltic and International Maritime Council (BIMCO), the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), the International Association of Dry Cargo Shipowners (INTERCARGO), the International Association of Independent Tanker Owners (INTERTANKO), and the World Shipping Council (WSC), is intended to assist in developing guidelines on the implementation of regulation.
The regulation limits sulphur in fuel oil to 0.50% when operating outside of designated Emission Control Areas (ECAs).
