The Port of Rotterdam Authority has begun trialling new scanning portals developed by Certus Port Automation at the inland Barge Terminal Tilburg.
All trucks arriving at or departing from the facility over the next three months will pass through an optical character recognition (OCR) portal which will scan truck registration numbers and container numbers as well as provide images and time stamps.
The port authority said: “Comparable identification and monitoring systems have been commonplace for some time at the deep sea container terminals in the port of Rotterdam.
