Sales and order intake up for Bromma

Both sales and order intake grew for Bromma during the first half of 2018, signalling a positive outlook for the container handling equipment market.

The spreader manufacturer maintained a “strong” market share in North America while the company gained a “significantly better” market share in the Asia Pacific region.

Lars Meurling, marketing director at Bromma, said: “It is obvious that there is a level of optimism in the industry today. I hear it in conferences I have visited recently, I read it in available market data and I see it in our order intake.

“The replacement market is starting to contribute significantly to the orders and the available market for us.”

Landmark orders in the first six months of 2018 included an order for 12 STS45 spreaders from Eagle Marine Services in Los Angeles and 11 similar units and 15 yard spreaders from Qingdao Qianwan Container Terminal in China.

Malta Freeport ordered 17 YSX40E yard spreaders while the Port of Felixstowe ordered 11 of the same model and 1 YSX45E spreader.

Georgia Ports Authority, Global Container Terminals (GCT) Vancouver and the automated APM Terminals facility in Tangier, Morocco, each ordered 10 YSX45E spreaders.

A statement from Bromma noted that the most frequently requested performance and safety upgrades include new control system technologies, twin-twenty detection systems, height indication systems, twistlock based weighing systems and serial crane communication.
