Up to 260m teu in container handling capacity expected to be built by 2023

Planned capacity expansions until 2023

About 350 expansion projects target to supply 260m teu in additional container handling capacity by 2023, with execution rates expected to vary regionally from 40% to 70%, according to a report from DS Research.

Developers are in general too optimistic regarding the expansion of existing facilities or the construction of greenfield sites, noted the German analysis provider.

The scope and timing of projects is usually adjusted to market demand, resulting in projects getting downsized, postponed or cancelled.
