Swissterminal, which runs a trimodal terminal in Basel, has filed a complaint with the Swiss Federal Administrative Court against the federal funding for Gateway Basel Nord, as it considers the project “a severe threat to competition”.
The complaint is directed against both Gateway Basel Nord AG (GBN AG), in which Schweizerische Bundersbahnen (SBB) is the main shareholder, and the Swiss Federal Office of Transport (FOT).
The FOT announced that it was going to publicly fund three quarters of the costs of the first project stage – around CHF 83m (US$85.5m) – for the planned container terminal.
