Konecranes has won an order from Port Houston for eight rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes equipped with hybrid power packs, constituting the first such equipment to be delivered by the Finnish company.
The order was booked in the fourth quarter of 2018, while the equipment is expected to be delivered in the first quarter of 2020.
The cranes’ hybrid system will have a lithium-ion battery pack and an advanced battery management system that will monitor the charge level and the general health of the batteries.
The system, which is fully modular and retrofittable, also comes with an eco-efficient Tier 4f engine that will charge the batteries when necessary.
Additionally, the manufacturer is able to monitor the status of the battery system through Trueconnect remote connection.
The RTGs will have a lifting capacity of 50 tonnes while stacking containers one-over-five high and six plus truck lane wide and will be equipped with the Active Load Control system, which aims to eliminate container sway.
The units will also be equipped with auto-steering, auto-positioning, stack collision prevention, truck lift prevention and Auto-TOS reporting.
Port Houston has been one of the manufacturer’s customers for 15 years and currently the port operates 90 Konrcranes diesel-electric RTGs.
