Konecranes has won an order for 12 Konecranes Noell Straddle Carriers to be delivered to the Port of Thessaloniki, Greece to be delivered by March 2019.
Ordered in February, Konecranes has reported that the model NSC 644 E straddle carriers will be ready for acceptance in an “exceptionally short” time.
Sotirios Theofanis, chairman of the board and CEO of the Thessaloniki Port Authority SA, said: “We entrusted Konecranes with this important renewal of our container handling equipment because of the high productivity and reliability of these straddle carriers.”
Each straddle carrier has a lifting capacity of 50 tonnes, is able to lift containers 1-over-3 and has a maximum travelling speed of 24 km per hour.
They will also be equipped with the Konecranes Noell single-lift spreader model NES 42 F and are prepared for subsequent automation as standard.
The contract also includes a spare parts package and a Konecranes engineer will be on stand-b y at the terminal for three months to help train operators and ensure that all the machines go into service successfully.
The equipment was ordered by the port authority, the concessionaire and operator of the Port of Thessaloniki, as part of an ambitious growth programme.
