Konecranes has delivered 13 reach stackers to Ethiopian Shipping Logistics Services Enterprise (ESLSE) to utilise in container handling, with the majority of the order being delivered to Ethiopia’s main dry port.
Modjo Port & Terminal, which handles most of the country’s trade, has received 10 reach stackers while the terminal operator’s smaller inland terminals of Kaliti, Mekelle and Kombolcha have received one each.
Every reach stacker included in the order has a lifting capacity of 14 tonnes and features a smart MD4 display and multifunctional joystick with the aim to improve overall efficiency and productivity.
Ethiopia is one of the fastest growing economies in Africa and ESLSE is in the process of building more inland terminals to support this expansion.
Roba Mergerssa, CEO of ESLSE, said: “We’re very pleased to update our lift truck fleet with the latest generation of Konecranes reach stackers, and are confident that this new equipment will help us improve our operations as we support the growth of the Ethiopian economy.”
The first 11 trucks were delivered and commissioned on January 21 2019, the twelfth machine was commissioned on February 12 and the final reach stacker was ready on February 14.
Winfried Lux, regional manager for India, Middle East and Africa at Konecranes Lift Trucks, said: “We’re glad to be involved in the development of the Ethiopian shipping hubs and we’re looking forward to continuing our fruitful cooperation into the future.”
