King Abdullah Port has received 28 Liebherr cranes, marking the start of the expansion of its container terminals and with the aim to help raise the port’s annual capacity to 5m teu.
The cranes are part of the first phase of the expansion, which was decided through a Memoriam of Understanding (MoU) signed with National Container Terminal, and are scheduled to begin operating at the start of 2020.
Included within the delivery are 20 gantry cranes and eight ship-to-shore (STS) cranes that are the largest of their kind, able to serve mega container ships, with an outreach of 25 container rows and a safe working load of 65 tonnes.
