Abu Dhabi Terminals (ADT) has set a new record of 10m containers at Khalifa Port Container Terminal (KPCT1), following a 51% year-on-year increase in container volume during the third quarter of 2019.
The 10m container record was achieved while serving the MV MSC Alexandra which is operated by MSC and deployed on the 2M DRAGON/AE20 service.
ADT’s acting CEO, Abdullah Al Hameli, said: “In line with the vision of the leadership in supporting the economic diversification of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, the new record represents a major achievement for Khalifa Port to promote economic development and diversify the economic resources of the Emirate.”
KPCT has seen notable and consistent year-on-year growth since its inauguration in 2012 and the recent 51% increase represents its increasing role as a logistics hub connecting local and regional trade to global markets.
By investing in KPCT’s infrastructure and facilities, the Abu Dhabi governments aims to create the Middle East’s first semi-automated and most technologically advanced container terminal.
