The Port of Tangier has ordered 16 rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes, which will be the first Konecranes container cranes in Morocco, for its new container terminal TC3 at Tanger Med 2.
The RTGs will have a lifting capacity of 40 tonnes, lifting containers 1-over-5 high and seven container rows wide plus truck lane. Additionally, they will be equipped with the auto-steering feature and auto-terminal operating system (TOS) reporting.
These two features will keep each crane driving straight on a pre-programmed path and will help to enable accurate yard inventory by reporting all container moves to the TOS.
Said Asbaai, chairman of the executive board of Tanger Alliance, said: “We selected Konecranes RTGs because we believe these machines will help us to reach our ambitious goals.
“Also, we appreciated Konecranes’ ability to deliver the cranes according to our challenging schedule. They will all be delivered by July 2020.”
Konecranes Port Solutions’ regional sales manager EMEA Adel Issa called the order a “breakthrough for Konecranes in Morocco” and wished the Port of Tangier success in its expansion.
